DOST Secretary Mario Montejo encourages product innovation and development for MSMEs/firms, implement more SETUP) Projects in Bicol

 

DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo conducts two-day project inspections and monitoring of the delivery of S&T services last 25-26 March 2012 in the Provinces of Camarines Sur and Albay. Sec. Montejo was joined in by Dr. Carol M. Yorobe, Undersecretary for Regional Operations and DOST V officials headed by Dir. Tomas B. Brinas .

 

Secretary Montejo visit marked another milestone for DOST continued commitment for S&T initiatives primarily the technology transfer and commercialization through its banner program, the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (DOST-SETUP). SETUP beneficiaries/MSMEs have adopted appropriate technological innovations and assistance with the provision of equipment/machines, productivity enhancement, training activities, and packaging and labeling.

 

In Camarines Sur, the team visited the following projects: Improvement of Buri-Handicraft Process and Establishment of Treatment Facility at Chica Handmade Bicol Souvenirs in the Municipality of Gainza; Improving Quality of Dried Fish through Advanced Drying Technology with LGU- Calabanga; Upgrading of Soya Processing and Utilization of By-Products through Acquisition of Appropriate Equipment Technology at Fabcarr Food Products, Naga City (above, left) and J. Emmanuel Pastries Improving Production and Packaging Facilities for Pilinut Products and Actual Demonstration on the Use of the Gasifier Combustor in Canaman, Camarines Sur Sec. Montejo commended said projects and inspired the MSMEs/firms to continuously adopt technological innovations to improve their productivity and gain competitive advantage.

 

Sec. Montejo also served as keynote speaker during the 11th Commencement Exercises of the Philippine Science High School- Bicol Region Campus (PSHS-BRC) in Goa, Camarines Sur last 26 March 2012 at PSHS-BRC Auditorium. He emphasized that every Pisay graduate has the privilege of quality science-oriented education, empowerment to overcome new challenges and take lead for greater responsibilities. Further, he reminded the graduates to be guided by the PHS vision in their chosen field; have scientific mind and passion for excellence and be committed in pursuit of truth. His presence was both an inspiration and challenge to bright students who after four or five years will be our region pride through their S&T careers and achievements.

 

The Secretary contingent proceeded to Albay Province for the project Integrated Coconut Fiber (Coco Coir) Processing Project Juboken Enterprise in Camalig,
