The Enterpise

Galoso Handicrafts has been exporting handicrafts to the United States. The main problem encountered by the firm is the amount of rejects of the export items due to discoloration and molds. The owner sought assistance to assess the problems and needs of her firm. SET-UP intervention was recommended to solve and innovate the processing of handicrafts using FPRDI technology. .

The Intervention

SET-UP rendered S&T intervention to Galoso handicrafts through technological assistance to improve the quality of handicrafts and novelty items. The interventions included: FPRDI-designed dryer, bamboo/rattan splitter and one (1) unit welding machine for handicraft metal parts. Training assistance on the operation of drying facility was also provided.

Result and Impact

With these interventions, the company was able to decrease the volume of wastes and rejects from 25% down to 5% thereby increasing sales from P 553,750 to P 692,187.50 per month. Production volume of GDH items increased from 78,500 to 130,000 pcs per month. The firm also added two export and three local product outlets.
