DOST-SETUP improves capacity, productivity of 17 MSMEs in Bicol

 

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region V thru its banner program, the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) has extended technological interventions and services to 17 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Bicol Region. The technology/innovation systems are intended to upgrade the capabilities and productivity level of local firms in terms of quality products, market exposure and income generation.

 

As of December 2012, DOST V and the SETUP beneficiaries signed their respective local memorandum of agreement (LMOA) for smooth project implementation.

 

DOST-SETUP assistance includes, among others, Acquisition of Equipment, Consultancy, Technology Trainings, Packaging and Labeling, Nutritional Fact Analysis, and Shelf Life Testing.

 

Dir. Tomas B. Brinas, DOST V regional director commended the interest and efforts of the individuals and cooperators in formalizing the partnership between DOST V and the local firms as SETUP beneficiaries. This is another milestone for the region and good news for the department whereby delivery of services has become the channel and turning point for more collaboration and successful projects in the region.

 

The 17 MSMEs are located in the following provinces: Albay (5); Camarines Norte (1); Camarines Sur (7); Catanduanes (1); Masbate (2); and Sorsogon (1). Total SETUP fund allocation amounted to P 10,675,455.00. (Dr.PO Lucena/MTD Alcantara, DOST V).
